I stumbled upon this recipe completely by accident. One cold weekend, I decided to make cabbage rolls. Of course, I looked to Pinterest for a quick and easy recipe and found what I needed at Sweet and Savory Meals. The dish was great, but I realized the sauce was perfect for pasta. I had enough left over to use the next night over a plate of pasta.
I have made this sauce a few times, and it is consistently delicious. This sauce doesn’t need to simmer all day to produce these savory, rich flavors; it only requires about 20 minutes of simmer time. You can prepare this sauce and let it simmer while your favorite pasta boils.
Just a few minutes of prep time to make this sauce. Finely dice half an onion. I like to use my Pampered Chef dicer; it is quick and easy and helps keep the eye-watering caused by the onion at bay.
Heat the oil in the pot, then add the diced onions. Let them cook for about 2-3 minutes, then add the garlic.
Add the remaining ingredients and let the sauce simmer while the pasta cooks.
I wish you could smell this photo. This sauce will have your kitchen smelling like your favorite Italian restaurant.
The sauce is ideal as-is served over pasta, or you can step it up and use it in a chicken parmigiana dish or add some hearty meatballs. Check out this recipe if you want to make homemade meatballs.
