Last year, at a Christmas dinner, one of the attendees brought these bonfire bars. I couldn’t believe I had lived half a century without being introduced to these amazing decadent bars. They are so simple yet so full of flavor and texture. I asked for the recipe and was directed to Pinterest. Luckily, I found the recipe at Cupcake-n-Bake, and now I am sharing it with you.
For this dessert, which is perfect for holiday parties, potlucks, or just a weekend sweet treat, you will only need a few ingredients and less than an hour to make. Graham crackers, enough to make 2 cups crushed, one stick of butter plus two tablespoons, one 14-ounce can of condensed milk, and three types of chips- one cup each. My personal favorites are dark chocolate, semisweet, and peanut butter. You can use milk chocolate, white chocolate, butterscotch, etc., whatever you think will make the best flavor combination.
Crush the graham crackers. You can crush them in the packaging, but be careful not to “pop” the packaging seam, or you could have a mess. I use a pestle that does a great job of crushing the crackers. You can also place crackers in a sturdy Ziploc bag and use a rolling pin to crush the crackers. You will need at least two cups of crushed crackers.
Next, melt the butter in the microwave in a microwave-safe bowl. Pour the melted butter over the crushed cracker crumbs. Mix the melted butter and the crackers using a fork until the crumbs are thoroughly moist.
Press the moistened cracker crumbs into the bottom of a 9 x 13 baking dish. Use a spatula or wooden spoon to spread the crumbs evenly across the bottom.
Next, pour the condensed milk over the crumbs. This is tricky. The milk is very thick and sticky. Carefully and slowly spread the condensed milk evenly over the crust.
Finally, top with the three cups of chocolate chips. Evenly sprinkle them over the crust and press them into the crust using a spatula or wooden spoon.
Bake at 350 degrees for 20-25 minutes. The bars will be done when the edges start to brown.
Once the pan has cooled, cut them into bars. You can let it cool on the counter or place it in the refrigerator.
Store in an airtight container in the fridge. I hope you enjoy these delicious bonfire bars.

1 cup semisweet chocolate chips
1 cup peanut butter chips

- Preheat oven to 350 degrees
- Crush graham crackers until you have 2 cups, then place crushed crackers into a medium-sized mixing bowl.
- Melt butter in a small microwavable bowl.
- Pour melted butter over the crushed graham crackers and mix with a fork until all the crumbs are thoroughly moistened.
- Press the moistened graham crackers into the bottom of a 9 x 13 baking dish.
- Pour the condensed milk over the crust. You may need to use a spatula to spread the milk as the condensed milk is very thick.
- Sprinkle the 3 cups of chips over the crust. Use a spatula or wooden spoon to press the chips into the crust.
- Bake at 350 for 20-25 minutes. The bars are done when the edges start to brown lightly.
- Once the pan has cooled, cut into bars.
- Keep refrigerated in an airtight container.
